Burkitt Lymphoma, rare in most of the world, is the most common childhood cancer in Central Africa, and is one of the most aggressive of all human cancers. Burkitt's lymphoma is one type of a group of maligant dieases known as the Non-Lymphomas.
Also, these lymphomas are very similar to the leukemias. Burkitt's is often referred to as a B-cell lymphoma or lekemias. The disease usually affects the bowel, eyes, kidneys, ovaries, breasts, thyroid, jawbone, nervous, system, lymph nodes, bone marrow, and/or tonsils.
There are 2 broad types of Burkitt lymphoma- the Sporadic and the endemic varieties. It is characterized by small uniform cells and has two main forms. The sporadic disease occurs occasionally, singly, or in scattered instances and it can arise or occur randomly with no known cause. The endemic disease is restricted or peculiar to a locality or region.
How to treat Burkitt lymphoma:
Chemotherapy is used to treat this type of cancer. Commonly used medicines include prednisone, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, cytarabine, doxorubicin, methotrexate, and others.
